Richard Branson is to be among the first employers to cater for the multi-generational workforce, with the removal of limits on the amount of holiday his Virgin Group employees can take each year.
Richard commented that he was inspired after reading a similar policy from Netflix, a video streaming company, and that he wishes to empower employees.
“It is left to the employee alone to decide if and when he or she feels like taking a few hours, a day, a week or a month off,” said Virgin boss Richard Branson.
Richard’s clear understanding of ‘what makes employees tick’ is one of the reasons behind the repeated success of the Virgin brand. The time and effort spent on creating a happy work environment is only equalled by the time spent providing employees with the right tool-kit to be successful in it.
Richard states that business is all about knowing and supporting your employees.
“Success in business requires an understanding of all sorts of intangibles, especially the most enjoyable parts of work, like cooperating as a team and keeping morale high,” said Richard.
This has been achieved in the Virgin group through several training delivery methods, which are applicable to the individual tasks that an employee will need. A large proportion are delivered online through a customised Learning Management System (LMS) which offers employees an opportunity to learn at their own pace, and revisit the learning tool to refresh as needed.
